Nobody but Feist can mime air-guitar and cavort in a fun-house mirror and make spellbinding art. Today Feist has released the official video for the title-track of her impending new album Pleasure (out April 28th on Universal), and it is pure pleasure to watch. The talented Mary Rozzi directed the video. Watch below as Feist effortlessly airs out her artistry and at the 1:59 mark rightly turns her ears up for her own heavenly vocals. From there the song gathers strength and resolve, with Feist eventually inciting viewers to clap-along to her/their pleasure. In this video Feist reveals anew why she is one of our most spellbinding live performers.

Those that haven’t purchased tickets for her upcoming tour (dates and tickets HERE–note additional date added at the Palace Theater) are on notice: to miss Feist live is to miss out on immeasurable pleasure. As the song says: “that’s what we’re here for!”

On Craig Finn’s outstanding new solo album We All Want The Same Things Finn continues his stellar storytelling ways. But he also opens up his cloak a bit more, providing more personal notes and honest assessments of life in which turmoil is assayed and peace (as much as possible) is meted out. In the current morass, sometimes we just need some honesty and a bit of peace. On We All Want The Same Things Finn has delivered a masterful album on which God is in the details.

To get a better feel, watch below as Finn performs the album’s aching closing song Be Honest on The Current. Once again Finn delivers sheer poetry (full lyrics at bottom) with lines such as: “The lust burns off into handshakes and hugs,” and “If revolution’s really coming then we all need to be well, so maybe it’s best if we both take care of ourselves.” The performance is deft and heart-rending. Bravo!

Spoon today released a new video for their smoking-hot track Hot Thoughts, which video features grainy vignettes from their recent SXSW gigs. Check it out below.

Spoon also announced dates for a co-headlining tour with the similarly-captivating Shins in the fall. Now that’s a dream double-bill to get on your radar screens. So far, the bands have announced they will play The Greek Theater in Berkeley on September 30th, San Diego’s Cal Coast Credit Union on October 1st, Phoenix’s Comerica Theater on October 3rd, and Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater on October 5th. Here’s hoping for the addition of a Santa Barbara Bowl date.

Both bands have released superb new albums. Spoon will head out on its tour on April 18th in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City, and The Shins will head out on April 20th in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Feist will at last return on April 28th with her new, highly-anticipated album, Pleasure. Feist has now revealed the second song (following Pleasure) entitled Century . The song was co-written with and features Pulp leader Jarvis Cocker. The song mines similar gritty ore as Pleasure, with continued intriguing vocals and a mathematical interlude from Cocker.  But oh those three repeated stanzas…magic right there. Feist has also announced additional tour dates, including two-night stands in LA, Chicago, NYC, and more. Check the dates at bottom. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 am.

Seth Meyers’ and Lefort’s literate-fave Craig Finn (The Holdsteady) appeared last night on Meyers’ Show with a big backing band (clarinet and flute included) and delivered God In Chicago (love that chorus–check out official video at bottom) and the autobiographical Preludes off his critically-acclaimed new solo album We All Want The Same Things on Partisan Records.

These are better times for talented female rappers. It’s taken a long time baby, but in addition to Britain’s fab Kate Tempest (watch her own tempestuous Tiny Desk Concert HERE), Chicago’s Noname is a serious word-force-of-nature. Aided and abetted by some chance encounters with Noname (first on Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap and Donnie Trumpet’s/Chance’s Surf and then Chance’s subsequent Coloring Book), we strained for years to learn more of this eloquent and emotive rapper. Thankfully, last summer she revealed far more with her first mix-tape, the impressive and critically-acclaimed Telefone (centered around important phone conversations she’s had).

You can now check her out via her Tiny Desk Concert below. Though Noname (Fatimah Warner) evidently almost missed her Tiny Desk owing to illness, watch below as she fights through and delivers impressively and movingly throughout her set. Served well by bandmates Connor Baker (drums), Brian Sanborn (guitar), Phoelix (bass, vocals), and Akenya Seymour (piano, vocals), Noname tugs hard at the synapses and hearts of listeners. Yours truly anyway. Great stuff. Go forward and prosper.

Feist is soon to deliver a brand new, highly-anticipated album Pleasure on April 28th. But she took time out to honor the late, great, fellow-Canadian Leonard Cohen at last night’s Juno Awards. Watch below as Feist is introduced by Prime Minister Trudeau (fils) and his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. Cohen would go on to win Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for his outstanding final album, You Want It Darker. We can go weeks without finding a new song that stands as our Song of the Week. But at other times it couldn’t be any easier. Take this week for example. Broken Social Scene delivered a masterful new song entitled Halfway Home from their first new album (release date unknown) in seven years. The song is a quintessential BSS anthem, but the band doesn’t just sit on their laurels here. They’ve elevated their songwriting, performing and production games to new levels. Halfway Home is easily our Song of the Week.

As leader Kevin Drew says at the song’s outset: “Turn it up!”
