Two weeks ago Hamilton Leithauser (The Walkmen) and Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend) gave the world a taste of their impending collaborative album I Had A Dream That You Were Mine when they released their superb song A 1000 Times.  Today Hamilton Leithauser + Rotsam have released another new song entitled In A Black Out.  It’s another stunner that only increases our already-heightened anticipation for the new album. Leithauser’s vocals are once again completely-captivating, this time in a more soaring-and-soothing motif. With the classical guitar and choral singers, the music reminds heavily of early Leonard Cohen (circa his seminal 1967 Songs album–listen to Teachers and The Stranger Song at very bottom).  [Ed.: After writing of the Cohen influence, we discovered Leithauser has said this about the song:  “I’ve listened to Leonard Cohen since I was a teenager. I’ve tried so many times over the years to do that kind of thing actually, and “In a Black Out”—that’s a song that I wrote mostly for The Walkmen record Heaven, but I could never get the part sounding good where I was playing. It sort of didn’t make much sense in Walkmen anyhow.” So there!]
